GENERAL WELLNESS

L.N., 2023

I started having health issues about two years ago. It started with herniated discs, then chronic pain and fatigue to follow. I was then diagnosed with a chronic autoimmune disorder and spent the better part of the year going to various doctors, naturopaths, and doing my own research, hoping I could find a way to feel better and keep up with life still. Every place I tried somewhat helped one symptom here or there, but nothing fully made me feel better. Then, I got diagnosed with low female hormones and was experiencing even more uncomfortable, painful, and even incapacitating symptoms on the daily. It wasn’t until I found Wu’s Healing Center that I finally have gotten some relief.

I write this as someone who never thought I’d see the light at the end of the tunnel. After a few sessions with Dr. Wu and her incredible staff, I started to see a huge difference. I finally had energy. I didn’t have to drag myself out of bed. I felt happy and not stressed. The first day I started feeling relief, I cried. Dr. Wu and her staff truly took their time and energy to listen to me and sympathize with my situation. The in-person treatments are incredible; they are so relaxing. Dr. Wu is also very good about actively reaching out via email, so I had all my questions answered promptly. If you are struggling with your health in any way, this is an amazing place to go.

I have been a patient of Dr. Wu’s for over 25 years, originally to address infertility issues and continuing to see her to maintain my health and vitality.

I am happy to report that as a result of the care I received from Dr. Wu and her team, I have two sons, ages 23 and 19! Additionally, over the years I have sought support to maintain my health and address a variety of issues-allergies, recovery from surgery, digestion, high blood pressure, etc.   Since I have been seen by Dr. Wu for so long, she fully understands my constitution and energy and provides great care.  For instance, when my blood pressure was considered high in my recent annual visit with my internist, it was suggested that I go on medication, but I opted to see Dr. Wu instead.  Under her care, I have maintained a healthy blood pressure without the need for medication.

I appreciate the holistic approach Dr. Wu and her colleagues embrace and the tender and insightful care I receive from the Center.  I am forever grateful to Dr. Wu and her team!

I learned about Dr. Wu and her work nearly 20 years ago while reading a book about Eastern medicine and healing Taoist practices to promote and maintain health. A few years later, I started graduate school in San Francisco and decided to make an appointment with Dr. Wu and her team for general health and wellness. I learned so much from Dr. Wu and her team, and found it complimented my graduate studies in physical therapy and rehabilitation. I enjoyed integrating a deeper knowledge and understanding of the body into what I was learning and practicing.

I was happy to have established a good relationship with Dr. Wu during this time. A few years later I experienced a health crisis. I became acutely ill as a result of environmental exposures to rodents and mold in my apartment. This happened while I was already under high stress as I completed graduate school and started a new job. I developed digestive issues and a severe skin reaction that was eventually labeled rosacea and cystic acne – health problems I had never experienced before. My doctor did not offer an explanation or many treatment options. I was devastated and feeling a bit desperate about what to do. I decided to pursue holistic treatment with Dr. Wu. Her treatments, herbal formulas, and skin care recommendations were incredibly helpful. Fortunately, the issues slowly resolved over the course of a year. My symptoms fully improved, and I have never had any issues since.

Soon after this, I moved from San Francisco to pursue opportunities for work and travel. After ten years, I relocated back to the area. I immediately thought of re-establishing care with Dr. Wu. For the last two years, I have been receiving regular treatments for general health and wellness, and more recently for fertility. I am incredibly grateful for the support I have received at Wu’s Healing Center.

I am an 85-year-old male under the expert care of Angela Wu and her clinic staff at the Wu’s Healing Center for over 25 years. From the very onset of referral to her center I discovered a number of options that ran the gamut of wholistic Chinese medicine approaches. Treatment starts with in-depth diagnosis based on detailed history, symptom analysis, and physical examination, and takes into account seasonal, environmental, and emotional factors. A comprehensive treatment plan is outlined using body energy dynamics, massage (both external and internal), acupressure and acupuncture treatments; diet and herbal supplementation are outlined. This is accompanied by patient education, including seasonal analysis for preventive maintenance.

As an allopathic physician, I have been deeply impressed at the level of healing and ongoing health maintenance results in this approach. Dr. Wu’s unique skills and gifted talents and optimal outcomes with a wide range of patients are legendary. I highly recommend this gifted healer and her treatment clinic staff for consideration in seeking longer term Wellness health care.

Dr. Angela Wu became my acupuncture doctor in 1983.  Over many years I have experienced different medical issues that western doctors would prescribe surgery or medication for.  Dr. Wu would continually resolve each condition with her expertise and wisdom. In addition, some events stemmed from life challenges that she understood and guided me through with her skill in acupuncture releasing the blockages and medical problems. Dr. Wu has also treated my family, friends and clients who I recommended to see her. All had excellent results. Dr. Wu is amazing and a gift for everyone who has the privilege to know her and her experience her awesome abilities.

L.O., 2022

I am a former patient of Dr. Wu’s returning to Wu’s Healing Center after approximately six years. This time, my visit was not for help with fertility, but rather my overall general physical health. I had recently developed regular headaches and a significant tooth sensitivity (to the point of not being able to chew food on one side of my mouth). After a visit with my dentist to help me resolve the most prominent health issue I was experiencing, I was left feeling quite hopeless, as my dentist was not able to identify any cause of the pain I was experiencing. I was worried that I may end up feeling this pain (along with the regular headaches) for the rest of my life! In an effort to truly focus on my health, rather than put off doing something about it (as my regular busy life typically leads me to do), I immediately thought of Dr. Wu and the wonderful staff at Wu’s Healing Center. Wu’s Healing Center was a place I had been a very regular patient years ago, during my fertility journey. Since the birth of my second child, though I have rarely seen Dr. Wu and her staff, they have always continued to remain close to my heart, as they were such a significant blessing in my journey toward my family as well as my own personal journey of growth.

Walking into Dr. Wu’s clinic for the first time after all these years was so wonderfully familiar. It was as if no time had passed. It was joyful for me to reconnect with the staff I hadn’t seen in so long, and it was also as if no time had passed- these individuals are like family. Just physically being in the clinic brought me feelings of such happiness. I knew I was in the right place and was where I needed to be.

I’ve now been to just four sessions at the clinic and my overall health is back to almost 100%. My headaches have all gone, and my tooth pain has nearly all dissipated (I can eat again!). Most importantly, my visits to the center and with Dr. Wu, have reminded me (once again) that making time and space for my own personal health, as well as taking care of and listening to my body, must always remain a priority. If not, I cannot enjoy all of the many fortunes in my life- especially precious time living life with my family. Thank you, Dr. Wu and staff. You are all truly knowledgeable, skilled, and wonderful individuals doing meaningful work!

For almost 40 years, I have been coming to Wu’s Healing Center for healing, rejuvenation, rebalancing of my body, mind and spirit. I first visited in the 1980’s when I was suffering intractable migraine headaches as I struggled with an extremely difficult marriage, the demands of a PhD program, and raising three children including a new baby. I wasn’t terribly fond of needles but once I got my first acupuncture treatment from the gifted healer, Dr. Angela C. Wu, I was converted for life to the power and wisdom of this medicine.

The miracles of Chinese medicine and this group of compassionate and skillful healers has been a blessing many times over. Although there have been periods of time when I wasn’t coming in regularly, it has always been the first place I go when I have a health difficulty- a surgery to prepare and recover from, a stressful court case, the more recent challenges of my aging 78-year-old (wonderful old) body. I fully believe I will celebrate my 100th with the continued expert attention of the wizards and magicians – James, Devin Kevin- and the continuing kindness and efficient operations of Wei and others at the front desk.

The minute I enter the doorway downstairs I begin to relax and feel the happiness of being in such a caring place. The supplements recommended have also helped enormously and I am always learning something valuable. I kind of miss the old days when I would boil bark and twigs and herbs to make a healing tonic, which now comes in little pills, but the blessings and miracles of healing body, mind and spirit with Dr. Angela and staff remain a constant. I am enormously grateful for the wonderful people here – they are angels! It is a joy and a blessing to have known Dr. Angela, this master healer and dear friend, for so long.

I am writing in regards to unexpected treatment I received with Dr. Wu. I originally started working with her in October 2018 for IVF preparation. She noticed that my chest area was very red and thought I had a rash. I let her know, that I didn’t have a rash, but had been burned so many times as a child that I had permanent sun damage. She kindly asked if I minded if she did a little work in the area. For the next four months, Dr. Wu worked on the area. I am more than happy to report that the redness is almost completely gone!  I have had this sun damage for 30 years and in just 4 months it has changed so drastically. I am so incredibly grateful!

Julie, 2019

I began working with Dr. Wu back in the 1990s, originally for allergies and sinus problems. Allergies ran in my family and I watched them debilitate my mother to the point where she could barely go outside without having horrible headaches and congestion. I definitely did not want that to happen to me, and I had heard about the benefits of acupuncture for such issues. At my first appointment I had no idea what to expect, but it was a very pleasant experience and everyone was really wonderful. But most of all, I was really blown away by the results. I felt so much better, and within weeks of the treatment and taking the herbs I had virtually zero allergy symptoms and my sinus headaches had pretty much disappeared. It felt like a miracle!

With Dr. Wu’s expert help, my sinus and allergy issues have been under control for a long time, but I have continued to see Dr. Wu for what we call “tune-ups“. This has been a huge part of my overall wellness routine, and I would never be without it. Dr. Wu herself is such a calming presence that I feel immediately more relaxed while she’s working on me. I feel very centered and grounded during the treatments and for days after, especially in stressful times. Dr. Wu frequently gives advice and recommendations to help me feel my best or to assist with an issue, and she’s always right on. In the time I’ve been seeing Dr. Wu, I’ve learned a lot about my body, what helps me, what can be improved upon, and what I can do to achieve and maintain good health and vitality.

It’s been many years (decades!) that I’ve been seeing Dr. Wu and her wonderful staff, and it has been worth every minute and every penny. Dr. Wu is now helping me transition into and through menopause, and the treatment has absolutely worked. For me, Dr. Wu is not just a medical practitioner, she is an inspiration, a cherished friend, and a beautiful soul who has guided me along the path to physical, emotional, and spiritual wellness and healing.

Craig M., 2019

Time passes quickly and it is hard to believe I first saw Dr. Wu in the mid 1990’s. My family members are quite familiar with Wu’s Healing Center, receiving treatment for overall wellness, general illness, specific health matters, fertility challenges, and even cancer relief.

My late wife’s MK’s mother had been diagnosed with lung cancer and passed away in 1994 and had received treatment from Dr. Wu to help with breathing and pain. My work at the time, subjected me to long periods of time in a cold environment which disagreed with my lungs and caused me to have a tight chest with slight to moderate cough. I don’t recall how many visits it was before my cough fully went away, but I do recall that I felt much better after the first visit! I still work in the cold and now do not have breathing related problems.

Pre cancer, MK saw Dr. Wu for overall wellness and also when she had back spasms. I recall these visits also provided relief. About 2 years after our first child, Kealey, was born, we began to have our second. Once again Dr. Wu was able to help as we were experiencing fertility challenges. Although we wanted a spacing of 3 years between siblings, we were thrilled to have Arden’s spacing of 4 years apart from her big sister.

When MK’s cancer diagnosis came, we received western medical treatments in addition to going to the Wellness Center. As ironic back round, MK had a master’s degree as a clinical Nurse Practitioner and was nearly half way through her Nursing PhD in the field of end of life care. She was well connected to many medical care teams at UCSF and received treatment from several doctors with whom she worked in end of life care. The treatments she received from Dr. Wu provided pain and relief support for her journey with cancer which complimented that of the western medical approach of chemotherapy. Moreover, the treatment and feedback MK was able to provide to the integrative pain management team at UCSF regarding her experience with acupuncture treatments at Wu’s Healing Center was extremely valuable in bridging Western and Eastern treatments and greatly helped the nascent Integrative Medicine teams at UCSF.   MK passed away in 2009, having made as good of a journey as possible with many who helped her along her path.

Throughout the years our family continued to see Dr. Wu on and off, some more regularly than others. Kealey did not see Dr. Wu very often, but my youngest daughter, Arden, began seeing Dr. Wu to help normalize the frequency of her menstrual cycle and help overcome being run down.

Because Dr. Wu’s approach to wellness is mind/body, she was able to provide Arden some of her life experience and insight in the acupuncture sessions that were helpful in guiding my daughter in ways that I, as a parent, could not: Navigating challenges of high school and home and health. I believe Arden has learned many things a from Dr. Wu about her body that she now uses to better make decisions which positively affect her health and life. I too have learned to respond to what my body tells me.

Getting acupuncture treatments has enlightened me about my body and how I can (if I pay attention) mitigate or even avoid illness. I too benefited from kind and caring insights from Dr. Wu as I traveled through challenging times with work or family, always reminding me to take care of myself first.

Dr. Angela Wu has been in my family’s lives for many years now. Her practice, practitioners and treatments all work together in support of the wellbeing of her many patients and their families. Her vision of well-being for mind, spirit and body is what she and her clinicians do daily, and I appreciate what they have done for me and my loved ones. I suspect my experience is similar to most of her patients—I hope so. How lucky are we who have had the good fortune, pleasure and time to have had Dr. Wu enrich our lives…maybe you don’t know, but I do.

Raquel S., 2008

I’ve been going to Wu’s Healing Center since 2000 and have recommended it to many people ever since. I should really get a referral fee for the amount of people I have sent there, but I digress.

Dr. Wu and her staff are great and have treated me and my family for years. I have gone to Dr. Wu for everything from allergies to nerve damage to stress and back pain and she always fixes me right up. They are on the pricey side if your insurance doesn’t cover any portion of acupuncture but it is well worth it.

If you are looking for a new acupuncturist or just want to try it out for the first time, I would definitely recommend Dr. Wu. She is friendly, extremely knowledgeable, kind, funny and has a great bedside manner. She also has a crazy good memory so don’t try to pull one past her because she will remember.

FERTILITY

Karen — mother of Dr. Wu’s first acubaby

Logan, born on April 30, 1981, was our first miracle baby! I had given birth to two other children (from my first marriage) prior to Logan. I had my cervix cauterized after the second birth (I was told that this would help me heal faster). Little did I know that this medical procedure would render me infertile. After remarrying and looking forward to starting more family, my current husband and I tried getting pregnant for three years. We went to several doctors, clinics, and nutritionists with no luck. Doctors recommended having a laparoscopy, as well as trying a variety of hormones. Our final infertility specialist tried a few tests and then eventually handed us an adoption agency card, apologetically explaining that we had run out of options.

Discouraged, but not ready to give up on having a biological baby (we would have adopted eventually) we decided to try going to an acupuncture clinic that a neighbor told us about. I attended each visit with some skepticism about ever becoming pregnant again but I was hopeful that at least receiving acupuncture, acupressure, and lavishing me with exotic and unrecognizable herbs would be a good experience. I remember after a two-month period of treatments when Dr. Wu announced that my body was back in balance and that now it was up to the higher power! I conceived Logan just two weeks later!  Dr. Wu, with her extensive knowledge of the beneficial effects of acupuncture, acupressure, and herbs, gave me back my hopes and dreams of having a family.

Logan was the miracle end product of Dr. Wu’s skilled efforts (and ours). We have subsequently been blessed with two more children since Logan arrived (Lauren and Charles). I also went to Dr. Wu’s clinic during these pregnancies. These were three more biological children than I would have had if I had listened to the advice of my last doctor. I feel I owe my good health, my fertility, and my three miracle children to Angela Wu’s dedicated skill, encouragement, and medical guidance. Blessings to you always, Dr. Wu and staff.

Arden M., Nurse, Brooklyn, NY, 2023

I have been coming to Wu’s Healing Center since before I was born. First as one of Dr. Wu’s Accu-Babies, then as a child watching my parent’s sessions, and later, as a patient in my own right. Because of the history between my family and this special place, I feel that Dr. Wu and her team have unique insight into my body and holistic health history.

Although many parts of my identity are catered to in western medicine, as a fat woman, the medical bias, and lack of research on bodies like mine meant that many of my health concerns were not being adequately addressed. At fifteen, my long-term primary care provider assumed that I had an above average BMI and slightly elevated blood glucose level because I was eating poorly, and in excess. She wrote-off my comments saying these assumptions were inaccurate and told me to watch what I ate. In the process ignoring symptoms like being extra hairy, and having extremely erratic periods in combination with the previously mentioned symptoms. Now, I know that these are all signs of hormonal imbalance caused by Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome (PCOS), which I was diagnosed with a few years ago. But, at the time I assumed I was doing something wrong, and the medical professionals I sought answers from were ignoring me. That is, except for Dr. Wu.

When she heard of my symptoms she told me I needed to come in regularly. With weekly sessions and herbs, she was able to regulate my cycles in a way that they had never been before. At sixteen, I was not the most compliant of patients, but Dr. Wu was patient and I always felt that she had my best interest at heart. She made me read Taking Charge of Your Fertility by Toni Weschler which single handedly put my knowledge of female reproductive workings ahead of every single one of my highschool peers. Dr. Wu gave me the tools to empower myself in the knowledge of my own body, which is something every teenage girl should have.

Since then, I have been away from San Francisco and away from the care of Wu’s Healing Center. I miss the warmth in which they receive me and I am always grateful for the check-in emails, even if I am not able to respond right away. I am forever grateful for her guidance and all the love shown to me by Wei and all the people on the care team that help contribute to making the center such a special place.

Angela Wu is a very special person. Her smile, warmth and happy nature are contagious. She has dedicated herself to helping others.

We first heard of her from a nurse friend, Ann. Ann was a DES child, which means her mother took the drug Diethylstilbestrol (DES) during her pregnancy. Daughters of mothers who took DES often have difficulty getting pregnant. Ann went to Dr. Wu for help after many years of trying to have a baby. We happened to tag along with the couple while they bought fresh silkie chickens to be cooked with a mixture of herbs.

In less than a month, Ann went to see Dr. Wu, who read her pulses and told Ann she was pregnant! Ann had a very smart boy, the first of two boys. Needless to say, the treatment was a success.

Dr. Wu is a very skilled acupuncturist. We feel so lucky to have met her and to experience her treatments. Her kind laughter still rings in our ears.

Dr. Angela Wu is a kind, caring, and compassionate fertility acupuncturist. Not only is she good at her job but she is also a nurturing person and soul. So accommodating to fit me in her schedule, to help things progress, and to help me financially. So thorough at figuring out what the challenge is and was with my body. I owe her and her practice the world.

My husband and I had our first child a baby girl in January 2018 after trying to get pregnant for a year and eight months with irregular menstrual cycles and being so physically active in my 20-year professional dancing career with the San Francisco Ballet as a principal ballerina. My husband and I moved across the country for work, and even with the distance, Dr. Wu checks in with me regularly and sends me packages across the country in caring about my postpartum and supporting me even with the distance.

We most recently had our second child in September 2021. Dr. Wu often checks in with me or will send me packages of wellness goodies. Plus she is a dear friend and sends me photos of herself and her family and I do as well. I am forever grateful to Dr. Wu and her helping me in my pregnancies and post partum.

Georgia, 2019

As I sit here sipping on my silky chicken soup and feeling my baby boy kick me from the inside, I can’t help but feel so grateful for Dr. Wu and her entire staff. My only regret is that I didn’t come see her sooner.

Our fertility journey started about 7 years ago. I knew I had fibroids because after I had an emergency appendectomy, the surgeon came in with a worried face and told me I should go get checked out. That was the start of a very long road for us. After trying for about a year with no luck, we decided that it would be best to get the fibroids removed with a full myomectomy. Once healed, we tried again and — surprise, surprise — we were able to get pregnant in the first three months of trying only to be devastated after losing the baby at 7 weeks. From there we saw countless endocrinologists and fertility specialists, they found that I had a septum in my uterus and I had to have surgery to get it removed twice but I continued to have miscarriages after that. Five miscarriages later, with one being at 15 weeks, I kept being told that there was nothing wrong with me, which was unbelievable.

I read books, blogs, and forums to find other people that I could relate to but had no luck. After researching more about eastern medicine for fertility, I ended up stumbling upon Dr. Angela Wu’s “Fertility Wisdom” book on Amazon and gave it a shot. Coincidentally, as I was talking to a friend of mine, he was telling me how his friend also went to see her and miraculously helped her get pregnant after trying for years. I called her office the next day and made an appointment.

I knew Dr. Wu was going to be different because she actually requested my medical records, which no other acupuncturist has ever done in the past. When I went in for my first appointment, I was honestly a little annoyed that it was going to take 2.5 hours because I was still juggling a demanding full-time job as well. In person, Dr. Wu was caring, understanding, and very confident that I was capable of having a baby which gave me so much hope. Her protocol is intense (and pricey) but I couldn’t help but respect every aspect of it especially after reading her wall of Acubabies success stories! From the fertility diet to all the herbs to seeing her 3x a week while still working downtown, it was all a bit overwhelming to begin with but I followed each step as best I could. Also because I knew if I strayed or cheated on the diet, she would know immediately after taking one look at my tongue! There’s no hiding that ice cream you snuck in for dessert from her!

After 3 months of intense treatments and coming to the difficult conclusion to leave my job to reduce my overall stress, Dr. Wu finally gave us the go ahead to start trying and we actually got pregnant after just two cycles! From past experience, getting that positive sign only triggered anxiety and stress for me but Dr. Wu and her kind, knowledgeable staff guided me through each step of the way to maintain a joyful and positive pregnancy. Dr. Wu also constantly asked for updates throughout my pregnancy about what my western doctors were telling me so she could also alter her treatments to coordinate with what they were doing which was amazing. I’ve had an extremely easy pregnancy with little to no typical symptoms that most women have to endure and I owe it all to Dr. Wu, her staff, the protocol, and the constant rejiggering of herbs. Fast forward a few months later and here we are, just one week away from my due date and so excited to meet our baby boy! I am so thankful to Dr. Wu and her team, you’ve impacted my life more than I can ever express my gratitude for. Thank you so much!  UPDATE: Georgia gave birth to a baby boy in April 2019.

I am an egg donor and I was told to try acupuncture to get the best results. After researching local acupuncturists in the area I thought Wu’s Healing Center would be the best fit for me. They don’t just do acupuncture, they start with an intake to see how you are feeling and if there are any new concerns. After that you have a body work session which is an amazing acupressure massage. The practitioners are focused and work with purpose to heal any issues and to allow your body to relax. Dr. Wu then comes in for an analysis and does a great job coaching you throughout your sessions. She does the tongue and pulse diagnosis and then helps you focus on your diet in order to get your body in the best possible shape, which she then enhances through acupuncture. My egg count doubled after seeing her for 5 months. And just as important, I then went through a detox protocol to cleanse the body of the medications from the retrieval. I feel much better about the process now that I’ve been under Wu’s Healing Center’s care.

Danielle, 2016

This is long overdue! My two, healthy, happy, three-month-old twin babies are sleeping peacefully (?) in the nursery as I type this. Truly, I believe that they would not be here where it not for Dr. Angela Wu and the work we did together.

A friend of mine passed her book onto me a few years ago, just as I was beginning the journey towards motherhood. I read the book and honestly, felt overwhelmed. I knew that Dr. Wu was here in San Francisco but felt intimidated and did not make an appointment. Actually, I did make an appointment but canceled before the session!

Fast forward 1.5 years, many rounds of IUI, one round of IVF and one miscarriage at the tail end of the first trimester (brutal), and I was ready to take things to the next level. After the pain of the miscarriage, I kept having this intuition in my gut that I should go see Angela. I was intimidated bc in her book, she says that we have to quit virtually everything in our lives (exercise, dairy, wheat, sugar, alcohol, cold foods…) and I really did not know if I could be that disciplined. Yet, my desire to be a mother was greater than my fear of the diet so I made the appointment … and this time, I went.

In person, Dr. Wu is warm, caring and deeply understanding. Yes, her protocol is intense (and pricey) but she seems to know when to push and when to let us be human and fallible. Surprisingly, she rarely commented on my fertility diet, which by the way, I was not following very well. I made changes, for sure, such as a big reduction in wine consumption and an ever-bigger increase in Chinese herbs and supplements. My partner and I even made the Silky Chicken Broth!

During our first session, about a month after my miscarriage, she looked me in the eye and said, “Promise me that you will not try again until you are ready,” meaning until she decided I was ready. At the time, this really freaked me out. I did not want to wait. I wanted my baby NOW. The Western doctor said I could start ASAP and Dr. Wu was telling me it might be 6 months or more. This was scary and upsetting but my intuition was telling me to follow her guidance and let go of control. Little did I know how important this last part was. Letting go of control is the best lesson in both fertility and becoming a parent.

Ultimately, it was exactly 6 months later when we determined, together, that I was ready for the next embryo transfer. For the first pregnancy, we transferred two embryos and I ended up with one pregnancy (and then loss). So, this time around, we again transferred two embryos and were blessed with TWO BABIES. We like to joke that Dr. Wu made me extra fertile!

We are so blessed and we are so grateful to Dr. Wu and her entire team, all of whom played an integral role in supporting me through the journey from heartbreak to the absolute bliss of parenthood. Thank you, Dr. Wu. You are forever in my heart!

He TaiLe, 2016

I first came to Dr. Wu in December of 2012. After conceiving my son with no problems in 2009, I’d recently learned that I was almost completely infertile three years later. I was 36 and had just been told my FSH was 34, when it should be below 10 to get pregnant.

Since my friends were all having second babies with no trouble, I wondered whether something might be wrong with me systemically. I also didn’t necessarily want to jump into western infertility treatments when I was reading online that they can wreak havoc with a woman’s body and mind, and besides, someone with my numbers might never conceive.

I wasn’t sure what to think when Dr. Wu immediately put me on a very strict diet (no wheat, dairy, sugar, corn, spinach, nightshade plants, and almost no fruit whatsoever), prescribed handfuls of herbs, and gave me a long list of other precautions (no high heels past ovulation; don’t let the wind blow on your neck; homemade chicken broth every day; etc). I had never taken herbs before and didn’t much enjoy the abdominal massages at her office either.

I was very surprised when my cycles, which had started to vary in length from 17 to 60+ days, almost immediately became much more regular. I felt much better following her advice that I had previously believed possible. The headaches I’d had almost daily disappeared. None of these issues were things western doctors had been able to address. I was grateful to be healthier. Nonetheless I didn’t get pregnant. Month after month went by. I felt both heartbroken and deeply ambivalent, as well as hopeless as I knew I was only getting older.

Dr. Wu told me I needed to take better care of myself and stop worrying about other people so much. She told me she thought I had more time to have a second child than I believed, and that I should forget about conceiving for a while and go back to grad school, which I’d been considering for a very long time.

I couldn’t forget what the western doctors had told me, and I’m sad now to say that I didn’t believe her. After a year under Dr. Wu’s care, I stopped going to acupuncture and went back to a western reproductive endocrinologist. Over the next year I endured five failed IUIs. I was taking different hormones almost every day which I hated. I had something like a 3-5% chance with each IUI of conception that would lead to live birth, and of course that chance would keep decreasing as I continued to age; there was not a lot of reason for hope in any given cycle, despite all the work involved. The doctor refused to do IVF with me because he felt my “fragile” eggs, so few in number even with lots of hormone medications, would not survive.

Finally I decided that I should at least try to give up my dream of having a larger family, even though it was one of the biggest things I ever wanted in life. I decided to grieve it through, focus on other parts of my life, and try to come to peace with my situation, including my wonderful husband and the son we were lucky enough to have already.

That was early 2015. I applied to grad school and got in. My son started first grade. I started grad school. I started running, which Dr. Wu had told me not to do while trying to conceive. In general, I still followed lots of Dr. Wu’s advice. I kept getting happier, healthier, and more centered, although I kept grieving for a second child. Even though I hadn’t seen her in a long time, I thought of Dr. Wu all the time. My cycles stayed wonderfully regular throughout all this and I was glad for the normalcy she’d been able to bring back to my body.

I finished my first grad school semester and enjoyed the holidays. When we got home I felt so tired I couldn’t get out of bed, so I rested there for a few days. I got up and enjoyed some busy days with my husband and son, but still felt so very tired. I thought I was sick; given my history of disappointment I was totally oblivious to the idea I could be pregnant. Finally I realized I should take a test and I was flabbergasted and thrilled to find I was 6.5 weeks pregnant.

The western doctor had been concerned that, even if I did conceive, my body would not make adequate progesterone to sustain a pregnancy, so I had a blood test to check on it the very same day. Not only was my progesterone totally adequate with no medical help, it was at the very top of the healthy range. I’d conceived on my own, against very steep odds, and baby and I were evidently thriving. Even though I hadn’t seen Dr. Wu in about two years, I’d become pregnant by finally following her advice. It’s the most incredible thing that has ever happened to me.

I am now 39.5 weeks along with an apparently healthy little girl. In addition to our disbelief and utter joy, this pregnancy has been markedly easier than my first, even though I’m now 40. I’ve had far less swelling, aches, and digestive upset than I had with my son. I’ve also felt happy and lively throughout, especially after my acupuncture treatments!

I went back to Dr. Wu for prenatal care, and while I still can’t quite get used to taking handfuls of herbs, I know that what she practices has a logic and a magic all its own. I know that our bodies contain wisdom and are influenced in ways western medical practitioners – and frankly, even most acupuncturists — know nothing about. I am so grateful I found her and so grateful for all the time I spent with her. Even if I’d never conceived again, my family and I are healthier for following her advice and her way of thinking, and I know that is a gift that will be with me for the rest of my life. What can you say about someone who’s changed your life that much for the better? Thank you Dr. Wu!

L.H.O., 2016

About a year and a half ago I was referred to Wu’s Healing Center by an acupuncturist who had been working with my husband and me to conceive a second child. Almost seven years ago, we had very quickly (our first try) and naturally conceived our son. I had a healthy pregnancy and he was born a healthy and happy baby.

When our son was about two and a half years old, we began to try to conceive a second child. I assumed that it would take no time, just like our first. Little did I know, at that time, that our journey as a family, and my own, towards conceiving a second child would be much different than the first, in almost every way.

After a year and a half of trying to conceive on our own, we sought help from the OBGYN, followed by another acupuncturist, followed by a fertility specialist…all with no success. When I first met Dr. Wu, she told me she felt I hadn’t taken care of myself properly since the birth of our son. As much as I was hoping just a little change in my diet would fix the “problem,” I would eventually learn that I had much more work and preparation to do than that.

Fast forward to more than a year and a half to today, when I can verify that she was right, but in a different way than I understood at first. Through working with Dr. Wu, I have, as she says, changed the course of my life. I better know how to take care of myself now through diet and lifestyle. In desperation to conceive, I can recall not even caring about any detriments I may incur to my own health, just so long as I was able to get pregnant and have a healthy baby. I have learned that first I must be committed to my own health and well being. I spent over a year working closely with Dr. Wu, preparing my body and mind for conception.

My favorite, and the most meaningful, time that has been spent with Dr. Wu has always been the conversations we’ve had. Dr. Wu has provided me with such life changing advice- sometimes in the form of sharing her own experiences, and other times simply opening my eyes to what was right in front of me. Her straight-forward communication style and sincere intent has and always will be such a huge factor in the more positive, educated, and healthy path my life has taken. The subtle, yet significant shifts in perspective as a result of my counseling with Dr. Wu have also allowed me to be able to help others- at work, in my personal life, and even providing support to others’ fertility journeys. I’ve found that now that I live with a more balanced body and mind, I have so much more to offer those around me.

After over a year of regular visits and a commitment to maintaining a healthy body and mind, I was ready. With the support of Dr. Wu and the invaluable staff at Wu’s Healing Center, along with the help of a wonderful fertility doctor, my husband and I were able to conceive after our very first IVF transfer. Thanks to all of the preparation that Dr. Wu had helped my husband and I to achieve prior to the transfer, from the beginning, the IVF process was more successful than expected at each stage.

We are now in our third trimester of pregnancy and are excited to meet our new little blessing soon. The journey to this moment may have been much longer than expected, but in retrospect, was greatly needed. Something I value most that I’ve learned has been to trust others. There are people in the world, such as Dr. Wu, who really do have your best interest at heart whether you choose to believe it or not. Before I met Dr. Wu, I believed no one could be more committed to what’s important to me than myself, but Dr. Wu has undoubtedly matched my commitment. (She even cancelled her own birthday vacation in Hawaii to accommodate my IVF calendar!)

Dr. Wu and the staff at Wu’s Healing Center will always hold a special place in my heart, as they have all played such a large part of redirecting my journey, not solely to conception, but most importantly, to happiness and health.

I didn’t actively try to have a baby until I was 40 because I assessed I wasn’t in the right situation to do so but I did freeze my eggs as I turned 40 just in case. Things changed that year and my fiancé and I came together and it seemed like the right time. We got pregnant easily but we had to terminate our pregnancy at 11 weeks due to a genetic developmental issue. A few months later we got pregnant again and I miscarried at 5 weeks. At this point I decided I should put some good energy into it and put all the chances on our side since things weren’t just unfolding and I was 41 years old. I wasn’t quite ready to try using my frozen eggs. I wanted to see if we could go the natural route first.

This is when Dr Wu was recommended to us. She quickly told me that she could help and to wait three months before trying again. At that point I was about to turn 42 and that seemed like an eternity but I complied. I followed her dietary recommendations once I really put my mind to it. It took me a while to totally go with it because it felt like a lot: the weekly appointments, the many herbs, the lifestyle recommendations and nutrition. I definitely had to put it on the front burner of my life. When I did so however, I will say that I felt quite good.

We got pregnant naturally with our daughter at our first round of trying soon after and I felt like I had all this wind at my back under Dr Wu’s care. I had no morning sickness to speak of. I was a little low-energy and moody but functioned quite well in my first trimester. The second and now third trimester I have felt truly great. People are constantly telling me how radiant I am. People were sick all around me with the flu and I never got it and that is unusual for me.

Dr. Wu was very clear about her instructions and the more I followed them the more I felt that I had all this life-force going to me and the baby. I feel very healthy and feel the baby alive and well. From advice on travel to infant care, she has been and undeniably strong ally to us in this process. It does require dedication on the part of the parents for sure.

It hasn’t always been easy for me to comply but when I think about it in terms of that I am doing all that I can to give my child the best chances of health for her entire life and that of her progeny I think: “Why would I not do this if I can?” It seems like the best gift one could give their child: to nourish them so well while all their organs are forming etc and setting them up as well as possible for the rest of their life. Dr Wu also assures me that this treatment will help the birth go as smoothly as possible as well as helping my milk come in etc.

I am now 33 weeks pregnant and going strong. People are constantly remarking they are impressed how well I am doing and how strong, radiant, and energetic I seem in my pregnancy. I literally feel like the force is with me in this pregnancy and it is wonderful to have this kind of support through such a vulnerable process.

Diana and Julien, 2015

After two years and a half of trying and almost no ovarian reserve, here we are at the end of our 15th week!

We had tried naturally for one year without success, so we decided to see a fertility specialist. They ran all the lab work and everything was alright for both of us. Like almost half of the couples struggling with infertility, our case was “unexplained.” Given my age (36 at the time) and all the normal lab results, we started different protocols beginning by the most conservative ones (ovarian stimulation, timed intercourse) and following with IUIs (five times) for one additional year, but none of those worked for us.

The next step was IVF. During a routine update of the lab work to start the treatment, we were all shocked to discover my AMH levels had suddenly and inexplicably dropped to 0.3, meaning almost no ovarian reserve. Doctors were truly sorry, saying this was very unusual but it had just happened. Nothing in my clinical picture could have predicted that. There was nothing left to do but trying an IVF, adapting the protocol to make it more aggressive, knowing our odds for success were now extremely low. We were devastated.

I had heard about Dr. Wu’s clinic from a friend but didn’t feel it was for me. I wasn’t ready for so many restrictions and weird exercises I saw my friend do. However, I knew they had a holistic approach, centered on wellness. I didn’t care about getting pregnant any more at this point. All I needed was something to make me feel better. So I made an appointment.

The very day of my first appointment with Dr. Wu, my cycle started in advance. That means my IVF cycle was on. So on my way to Dr. Wu’s office I had the fertility clinic calling with a thousand instructions, the insurance asking for paper work, the pharmacy saying the medication might not be there on time…I thought my head was going to explode.

When I told all this to Dr. Wu she listened very carefully and asked “So, when are you planning to start your IVF?”, and I answered “Today”. She opened those big eyes of hers I will never forget, saying “No! No! Your body is not ready! Doing it now would be like planting a seed in a field of snow”. (What???) Now I was not only devastated but also very confused. I collapsed.

She asked us to wait a few months to better prepare for the IVF but we were so anxious about this 0.3 number that haunted us day and night, by the minimal success percentages the doctors gave us, and by the idea that every day I would have less and less eggs, that we decided to try the IVF anyway. After 3 days we had to cancel our IVF because we only had one egg in spite of all the aggressive stimulation.

The next month my husband was away so we couldn’t try again, but in the meanwhile I became really curious about the traditional Chinese medicine. I borrowed Dr. Wu’s book from my friend and started asking questions. I have to admit I didn’t understand everything but it all started to make some sense to me.

My doctor had said it was ok to do acupuncture but recommended I didn’t take any herbs because she was not familiar with them and she was afraid they would interfere with the treatment. But Dr. Wu not only knew about Traditional Chinese Medicine, she was also familiar with the Western one. She had prescribed the herbs that would support my own protocol.

The truth is I’m not an expert in none of those medicines; hence, it was a matter of trust. It was our bet. So I said to myself “if all this does make any sense I am going to do it all the way”. I then decided to follow every direction: the herbs (yuck!), the food guidelines (really? Lamb twice a day, every day?), the moxa (kind of smelly), the meditation (that was good!), etc. It was hard but I’m lucky to have a very supportive husband who was always there encouraging me and Dr. Wu is an incredible coach when you are able to open up and learn to listen.

When the time came for the next try of IVF, two months later,Dr. Wu said “doing it now would be like buying a house without money: you could sign the papers but you might not be able to pay the debt”. In spite of the progress I had made “warming up my body”, I was not ready and she insisted we wait one more month. It was a hard decision but we listened to her this time and waited.

I was so anxious that I asked my doctor to have an ultrasound, even if we were not doing any treatment, just to see if I was still making any eggs. We were stunned to discover 10 follicles in the ultrasound. Ten!!

So we scheduled the IVF for the following month but we never got to do it, because one of those ten eggs got fertilized… naturally! We are now at the end of week 15 and all the ultrasounds, genetic screenings and blood work show our little boy is growing healthily.

We are thankful to Dr. Wu and her caring team and proud of ourselves for all the hard work and the great results we have been able to achieve. It is an actual teamwork. Thank you, our families will forever be grateful to you.

It is very hard to put my experience with Dr. Wu into words. My overall experience at Wu’s Healing Center has been life changing. I came wanting a baby, but what I received is so much more. I have a deeper understanding of my body, my relationship to my body, and how I need to live my day-to-day life. More importantly, I have a better and more acute sense of myself.

This understanding has been nurtured and guided by Dr. Angela Wu, one of the greatest teachers I have ever worked with. For me, the journey has been as rewarding as the outcome.

A few years back, I heard about Dr. Wu and was on a desperate quest to have a second baby. I was willing to do any treatment to have another baby and was fully prepared to do the right work, in conjunction with both Eastern and Western IVF treatments. What I quickly learned was that I had to prepare my body even before the process began. This wasn’t easy – I didn’t want to wait, I was eager to start.

At age 30, I was diagnosed with a diminished ovarian reserve. It was a huge shock and in retrospect, I realized that I was very angry with my body and myself. I had a hard time letting go of all the emotions. In time, Dr. Wu began to help me let go of this anger. Soon, my health was improving rapidly. I was losing weight and felt incredible. I drastically changed my diet and soon it wasn’t a sacrifice, but a new way of living. This new ‘way’ paid off for me (and my family) every single day.

I also consulted with Dr. Wu in regards to finding the right IVF doctor. I was grateful that to find a wonderful doctor to work with – a true expert. I was lucky to have a really wonderful team. They both mutually supported and respected each other and my endeavors in both Western and Eastern medicine. My follicle count improved and I soon began my first IVF cycle. Sadly, that cycle ended with a chemical pregnancy and tremendous heartache. Who could have ever predicted such an outcome? I was faced with the reality that I would have to start the IVF process all over again. I was at a major crossroads. I was being steered by pain and anger. We considered the possibility of egg banking. To me, this was the obvious choice. However, this was also a choice that came with great physical and emotional sacrifice. I had once again lost faith in my body and truly lost faith in the whole process.

Overcoming the fear to be able to complete the second cycle was only possible because I trusted Dr. Wu, and she took the time to listen. I had so much sadness and my treatments were a place of solace. My husband, my sisters, and even my mother were unable to understand everything I had gone through and what still lied ahead.

My focus on numbers, test results, and the side effects of the IVF cycle were very intense the second time around. During my sessions I was able to be honest, express my fears and together, we would reach a deeper understanding. I was able to complete one more IVF cycle and additional egg retrievals were not required. Dr. Wu often reminded me that all I needed was that one single healthy embryo.

Throughout this journey, I had to accept that everything was beyond my control. No matter how many cycles I completed, or however good the doctors are, I could not control the outcome. I compared myself to other women and wanted to have two, three or four embryos to work with.

After the retrieval, the lab work, and the testing, I had one healthy embryo. Of course, I was disappointed. The roller coaster after the retrieval process is brutal. During the ten-day period I really had to control my fears. Dr. Wu was with me every step of the way as we focused on healing my body from the drugs and all the procedures. We focused on the blessing and wonderful opportunity that this one healthy embryo presented for the future.

In a matter of months, I was ready for my transfer and was prepared for the testing and waiting that would be required. I was terrified. Throughout the many tears, Dr. Wu still listened. She acknowledged what I had been through, what I had lost, and the physical treatments helped me overcome some of the emotional anguish. My experiences had informed who I was, but I had to find a way to be present. I had to be open and accepting.

After multiple beta tests and a very long six weeks, the day of the ultrasound arrived and we heard a tiny, fluttering heartbeat. My one little embryo had made it and was indeed growing inside of me. I am now well on my way to my third trimester and will be welcoming another baby girl this summer.

I now feel the baby I so desperately wanted and at times thought was never possible, kicking and growing inside of me. I am so very grateful. My body is now much healthier and equipped to carry a healthy pregnancy. I still sometimes get scared and my acupuncture sessions help to realign me. Wu’s Healing Center is my safe haven.

While I would never wish for the heartache I have endured, this has been a great life lesson. I am grateful to have learned so much and I understand myself on a much deeper level. Dr. Wu is a great a teacher and requires you to look within yourself with questions worth asking. I know I would not have this baby kicking inside of me if she were not guiding us on this journey.

Grace H., 2015

Becoming pregnant had been a fairly easy and quick thing for me to do. Out of the 4-5 times we threw caution to the wind, I had become pregnant twice but both pregnancies ending in miscarriage between weeks 6-8. I had received acupuncture during the time (in NYC and Vancouver) and took some estrogen suppositories as prescribed by my Western doctor given my low estrogen levels. Still, the result was a miscarriage. At first I was relieved to find out I could indeed get pregnant (at age 40 the first as I had been treated twice for endometriosis at age 38 and 39 ) but by the second miscarriage, I realized I had to do something different.

Dr Wu and her caring team–some of whom have been with Dr. Wu nearly 20 years–treated me for 3 months, at which point I started IVF in August 2014. The IVF yielded 17 embryos (at age 41, this is a strong result I am sure attributed to Dr Wu’s treatment) but as I waited till day 5, none of the embryos survived. As expected, the emotional letdown followed. Dr Wu suggested I wait until spring of the following year to suit my constitution but my body had a different idea. I fell pregnant about 5 weeks after the unsuccessful IVF and now am at 32 weeks waiting for our unborn child.

Although I live in SF, it still took quite a lot of time out of my schedule to do the treatments. Luckily my job hours were rather flexible and Dr Wu and her team are always willing to try and accommodate my schedule to the extent possible. They have often offered to come in earlier or even on a day they’re closed if needed. I tried to follow the diet guidelines as best I could, dutifully drinking black chicken soup every day. The 72-96 daily pills I had to swallow were a different story. After I hit 16 weeks, I simply wasn’t able (or willing) to take any more pills beyond the absolute necessary pre-natal vitamins and supplements.

During my entire pregnancy I seldom experienced the many common ailments that come with pregnancy: the morning sickness was mild and rare, my cravings were nearly nonexistent, and my husband has been amazed at how even-keeled my emotions have been during the past 8 months. When I did suffer from poor sleep or swollen ankles, a visit to Dr Wu and her team would address that immediately.

I do not always see eye to eye with Dr Wu. There are times when I wish she would give me more information about the reasons behind this medicine or that food because I think it would help the intensity of my commitment to following certain guidelines. But I try to remember she is doing what is best for the overall health of the baby. And I am very grateful to her and her team.

While we want to move to another city soon, my husband and I agree that if we are to have a second (or even a third) child, we believe in Dr. Wu enough that we are willing to stay in San Francisco until that time. I am convinced that keeping my pregnancy this time is in large part due to Dr Wu’s treatments and the care of her support team.

Wendy, 2013

When I was 36, my first child was naturally conceived easily. However, at age 40, it was a different story. We tried for 1 1/2 years before we started seeing a fertility specialist. Our first IUI was unsuccessful. Then, we encountered a big obstacle. Just before I turned 42, I was diagnosed with breast cancer. At that point, I was willing to forego another pregnancy for my own health. However, my doctors reassured me that my cancer was detected early and low risk so I had a year from the time I was diagnosed to try to get pregnant again. Because I had to wait for my cancer treatment to be completed, I really only had 5 months left to try for another pregnancy. At that time, I saw a fertility specialist who specialized in cancer and I was told that I had very low ovarian reserve and that I was not a candidate for IVF. He recommended IUI as a more cost effective treatment but told me that my chances of conceiving were quite low. I scheduled another IUI.

During the week of my IUI, one of my medical providers recommended Dr. Wu. I had heard of her being a fertility specialist but was deterred by the financial costs. Since I only had very limited time and was referred by a medical provider who is well respected and practices evidence based medicine, I decided to give it a try. I figured that it would be a good investment in my health and if I were to get pregnant, I wanted someone who can help keep me as healthy as possible since I had already been through so much.

During my first treatment with Dr. Wu, I responded well and decided to to follow her diet and treatment protocols as best as I could. My second IUI, which occurred 2 days after I started seeing Dr. Wu, was unsuccessful. About 2 months into my treatment at the Wu Healing Center, I scheduled my 3rd IUI, the first with injectibles. The month before my IUI, exactly 3 months after seeing Dr. Wu, I got pregnant naturally!  So far, I am 15 weeks along and am doing well overall. All the prenatal tests show the baby is healthy. After being diagnosed with cancer, I had lost some confidence in my body but now, I am healthier than I have been for a long time. I know that under the guidance of Dr. Wu, I will have a healthy pregnancy and furthermore, continue to be healthy for the rest of my long life.

Rachel, 2008

I am a 36-year-old woman, who first came in to see Dr. Wu in the spring of 2007 after being diagnosed with a high FSH level combined with a blocked fallopian tube. In addition, I had had surgery the previous year to remove a septimation in my uterus, which would have made it very difficult to carry a pregnancy to term. The fertility specialists that I talked with felt that my only option with the combination of these conditions was to do IVF, a step I didn’t feel ready to take.

While I wasn’t sure what to expect from the Wu’s Healing Center program, I was immediately drawn to their approach to fertility and overall body wellness, which I felt at the very least, would give me back a positive connection, both mentally and physically, with my body. My husband and I decided to try doing some cycles of IUI in conjunction with Dr. Wu’s program, to give her process a chance to work and see if we could avoid having to do IVF immediately.

I followed Dr. Wu’s fertility regime as closely as I could over the next five months, in addition to doing three cycles of IUI combined with Letrazole, a fertility drug similar to Clomid. After two unsuccessful attempts, the lab informed me before beginning a third, that my husband’s sperm count had inexplicably dropped dramatically, and that he would have to possibly also take fertility medication. As a result of this, they felt that we now really had no other options but to prepare to do an IVF cycle in the fall.

I was disappointed, but thanks to Dr. Wu’s program, I felt mentally much more competent to deal with the IVF process and physically I felt great and had even lost twelve pounds following her diet. We decided in August to begin IVF treatments in the fall and while we were waiting to set up this process, we tried conceiving the old-fashioned way, without any assisted reproductive techniques or drugs.

We were completely surprised to learn a few weeks later that I was pregnant and even amazed my husband’s fertility specialist, who told me that with my husband’s current numbers, “you must be incredibly fertile!” Dr. Wu had predicted that it would take at least four to six months following her program to prepare my body for pregnancy and she was uncannily accurate.

I continued working with Wu’s Healing center throughout my pregnancy and with Dr. Devin Wu’s, blending of acupuncture and physical therapy treatments saved me from overwhelming nausea and discomfort through first trimester. Later, during second trimester, I was diagnosed as having an incompetent cervix and was placed on bed rest for four months, during which time, I received regular home treatments from a senior staff member, which kept my circulation flowing and helped tremendously with cramping, due to inactivity.

My son was born on April 25th, two weeks early but he weighed over six pounds and was completely healthy. Thanks to the herbal supplements I took prior to delivery, he never developed jaundice and all the nursing staff commented on his great skin after birth.

I am convinced that my successful pregnancy was due to the acupuncture and fertility treatments I received from the Wu’s Healing Center and I will be eternally grateful to them for the miracle of my new baby. Thank you Dr. Wu and staff.

 J.L.B., 2020

I am writing this to share my most recent experience with Dr. Wu. I have known Dr. Wu for nearly 22 years. First as my professor at SFSU then as my acupuncturist and healer when I became pregnant back in 2006. In early January 2020, I had a shingles outbreak and went to Dr. Wu to seek help. During my initial treatment, Dr. Wu asked me questions that made me realize that the underlying reason for my outbreak was about an issue I had been avoiding for years. At my annual checkup with my Ob/Gyn, nearly 3 years ago, I had been complaining to of heavy menses and my doctor recommended I get a hysterectomy. She referred me to a doctor, whom I met with and also got a second opinion. Ultimately, I decided against the procedure. In those three years, I had become so severely anemic to the point where I had to get iron infusions. I had become so focused on the anemia and the infusions that I lost sight of the root of the issue – why was I loosing so much blood every month? When the shingles broke out I knew I needed to seek guidance from Dr. Wu.

At that first treatment, Dr. Wu asked hard questions, questions no other health care provider had asked before and it a light went off. With her help, I have accepted the surgery and have thanked my female organ for the gift it gave me and have fully let go.

It has been a little over a month of treatments and I feel my body and mind stronger than ever before. My son asked me the other day if I was afraid of having the surgery and I answered, with complete confidence, “no, I instead I am grateful to be able to make this choice to feel better!”  Thank you, Dr. Wu.

When you find the right acupuncturist, it can change your life for the better and Angela Wu did that for me. I developed extremely high blood pressure after taking a new birth control pill. I had been taking the pills off and on to regulate my menstrual cycle since I was a teenager, as my cycle would fluctuate anywhere from 15 days to sometimes more than 45 days. I knew something was wrong with the new pills when I developed intense unwarranted rages. I found out from my doctor, rage was a known side effect of those pills. I stopped the pills and tried a different one. The effects of those pills made me feel like my eyes were bulging out of my head and I had pressure in my chest.

I went to see a cardiologist as my family has a history of heart problems. The cardiologist was not a good one. He basically told me I had high blood pressure, which was causing the bulging eye feeling and the chest pressure. I asked why I was having high blood pressure since I had never had a problem previously. His expert opinion was that I was old and fat. He told me I would have to take blood pressure medication for the rest of my life.

I was 35 years old at the time and about 50 pounds overweight. I had been overweight since I was in my late teens and no major increase in weight had occurred ever to make me suddenly go from having normal blood pressure to having it go out of control. I thought about what had changed in my life and the only thing I had been doing differently was taking a new birth control pill. I stopped taking them immediately and then went to see the Wu.

I knew about Dr. Wu because my mother had been seeing her for back pain resulting from fractured vertebrae. Mom had been to many pain clinics, had undergone 2 rounds of med injections into her spine and had not improved at all. She could barely walk more than a block before she had to sit down from the pain. A friend suggested Angela after seeing all Mom was going through. Within 6 weeks, Mom could walk much farther and the pain was basically gone. After 2 years of Western medical failures, Angela had Mom feeling better by 6 treatments and walking longer and better in 6 weeks. I figured if she could help Mom, she might be able to help me.

Within a month, my blood pressure was back to normal and my cycle was mostly regular with only minor fluctuations meaning it was coming every 30 -34 days. No pills. No birth control or blood pressure medication. And I felt so much better.

I am now 43 and am still overweight. I had to stop regular sessions with Dr. Wu because I moved to Southern California. My cycles have remained regular all this time. My blood pressure has had its ups and downs and more recently it was up but I have been seeing an acupuncturist near my home and it has come back down to normal again. No pills.

Dr. Angela Wu has made a significant difference in my life and my mother’s life. Her treatments work. And keep working. Thank you, Angela.

Cory, 2008

It never occurred to me that it would be difficult to have a child—that when I was ready, I would become pregnant immediately. (It seemed like I had spent most of my adult life trying not to get pregnant!)   I got married when I was 37 and it wasn’t until I was 40 that I started trying to have a child.

After a year of trying I went to a fertility doctor. I had a couple of things against me—age (41) and a thin uterine wall. I was given a 20% chance of having a child through IVF. We went against the odds, and after an unsuccessful IVF, the doctor said I had a 5% chance of having a child with another IVF and if I did become pregnant it would be a very difficult pregnancy (bleeding) due to my thin uterine wall. If I used donor eggs, my chances improved to 30%. We went so far as to visit a donor agency, but I wasn’t convinced this was the right thing for us to do.

I remembered having read an article about Dr. Wu a couple of years earlier and decided if we were going to go through another cycle with donor eggs, I wanted to consult her first. I explained my history to Dr. Wu and she wanted to know why I was considering donor eggs. She said it wasn’t necessary and she could fix my problems. I must say I was overwhelmed after my first visit. There were so many changes I needed to make in my life—not all of which I understood, but I trusted Dr. Wu.

Six months after my first visit I became pregnant naturally and had not a single problem during my pregnancy. No bleeding, no stretch marks, no excessive weight gain (28 pounds)—I felt great. I was religious about taking my herbs and having my massages and acupuncture. But, I must say, the diet was very difficult for me. Everything I used to eat (and loved) was on the off-limits list. But it was a small sacrifice. Fifteen months after I first walked into her clinic, I gave birth to a healthy baby girl. I know that it would not have been possible without Dr. Wu and her staff.

I saw Dr. Wu a couple of times after I had my daughter, but did not have regular appointments, because I was too busy with my new baby. However, about seven months after she was born, I had what I thought was a bout of the flu. I went to see Dr. Wu, and I realized that I had been feeling this way for a couple of months during my period. I began to see her regularly and my energy and health improved immensely.

Around the age of 45 I began having strange symptoms. I had tingling in my extremities, electric shock sensations under my skin, night sweats and gastrointestinal problems. I thought I had some terrible disease and went to my doctor who found nothing wrong and prescribed anti anxiety medication. My husband asked me why I had even bothered with him and not gone to Dr. Wu instead. She said I was not ill and together we discovered that my symptoms were from perimenopause.

I see her regularly (every two weeks). And, at the age of 48 have had probably 30 of the 34 symptoms of perimenopause at one time or another, but all of my symptoms have been easy to manage. (All done without hormones.)

I initially went to see Dr. Wu to become pregnant, but now realize that regular “maintenance” is just as important to maintain a healthy lifestyle. I am a true believer! Thank you, thank you, thank you, Dr. Wu and staff.

K.P., 2007

As I entered my forties, menstrual symptoms that began as bothersome in my thirties only

became worse. I experienced increasing mood swings and anxiety, sleep problems several nights a week, heavy periods, mid-cycle spotting, and irregular periods.

Western medicine could offer only hormone therapy or surgery to alleviate my symptoms. So after the discovery of several fibroids, completing two hysteroscopies and polyp removals, I decided to give Eastern medicine a try.

Dr. Angela Wu was warm, welcoming, and professional. She assured me that she could help. And she was right. After only one clinic treatment and two weeks of her prescribed herbs and remedies, I already noticed a big difference. I slept solid every night for a week. My mood was better. My period was less heavy, more manageable, and arrived and ended on time. There was no mid-cycle spotting. Even my complexion improved! I look forward to ongoing treatments with Dr. Angela Wu as she supports me in being the healthiest woman I can be.

MENTAL HEALTH

Caroline, 2023

I have been seeing Dr. Wu and team for the past 3 months for stress-related symptoms. It has been a wonderful experience and the whole staff has supported me throughout. The acupuncture, body work, supplements, and check-ins with Dr. Wu have become an important part of my self-care practice.

Treatment has given me a regular cycle for the first time in my life at age 33 and has eased my stress-related physical and mental ailments. Coming to Wu’s Healing Center has become a weekly healing ritual for me, and I appreciate Dr. Wu sharing her wisdom, recommendations, encouragement, and guidance with me. I recommend Dr. Wu and team if you need kind and compassionate care for mind, body, and soul.

Judith K., 2021

I’ve suffered from chronic gastro-intestinal problems my whole life. Bloating, constipation, sharp pain, discomfort after eating. Sometimes the bloating was so intense I couldn’t breathe. Chronic stomach pain just became an uncomfortable way of life for me.

I have tried all sorts of remedies—diet change, diet restrictions (no wheat, no lactose, no nightshade vegetables…), fasts, conventional medications, homeopathy, naturopathy, Ayurveda, herbs, acupuncture, massage, diuretics. I’ve been diagnosed with SIBO, IBS, indigestion. Sometimes I would find some temporary relief, but the pain and bloating would eventually return.

In August 2021, my daughter was brutally attacked and raped. Almost immediately the bloating escalated. I looked like I was pregnant, eating was painful, I felt like there was no room for me to breathe, the discomfort would not be relieved no matter what I did.

I was referred to Dr. Wu by a friend who had been successful in getting pregnant 20 years ago after seeking treatment by her. Immediately I felt held by her and her staff. Dr. Wu explained to me that because I had been experiencing this condition for 60 years I would need to be patient with the treatment. She provided me a regimen that included meditation, massage, and traditional Chinese medicine of acupuncture, cupping, herbs and moxa. Her approach was holistic, respecting that the spirit, mind, emotions, and physical body all needed to be healed.

I have been seeing Dr. Wu and her amazing staff for only 6 weeks now and already the relief is palpable. The bloating is gone. Dr. Wu is a true healer. I am deeply touched by her tender, intuitive approach. Her healing is not cookie cutter. She sees you as the individual you are, she touches your spirit and gives you her love and expertise in the healing arts. What a blessing to receive the gift of this healing. Truly my life is being transformed.

IMMUNE SUPPORT

L.O., 2022

I am an elementary school teacher. Since the beginning of the pandemic, I had been extremely careful to follow all of the guidelines as they pertain to COVID protocols. I had made it through three difficult years of the pandemic staying healthy. The very last week of this school year, though I was relatively asymptomatic, I took a COVID test out of precaution as I was going to visit the dentist. After testing positive, I spent the next 5 days in isolation (and the next 10 days) at home. I seemingly recovered quickly and was ready to start my summer break.

Unfortunately, after those 10 days of quarantining, I didn’t have the excitement and energy I typically do at the start of my usual summer breaks. Though testing negative for COVID, I was still tired. I began having frequent headaches and some significant tooth sensitivity when eating. After visiting the dentist office (and them being unable to find anything wrong with my teeth) I decided to visit Wu’s Healing Center. Dr. Wu and her staff listened to me describe my ailments and carefully helped me to resolve all of the issues I was experiencing which, I now believe were post-COVID related. I am pleased to share that I am truly feeling well again…I am blessed to know and utilize the resources of Dr. Wu and the amazing staff at Wu’s Healing Center.

Julie S., 2022

I have been seeing Dr. Wu for many years to treat allergies, hormonal issues, and for overall wellness. I’m fully vaccinated, but I came down with Covid-19 in July of 2022. I was unable to go to the clinic so Dr. Wu sent me some medicinal herbs to take while I recovered. I ended up experiencing very mild illness and was feeling pretty much normal within a few days, then tested negative after about 8 days. I took antivirals as a precaution, but I’m not sure they were necessary since I was already feeling so much better before taking them. Most people I know who got Covid in the last several months experienced much more severe illness than I did, and many of them have lingering effects, even those who are also vaccinated and took antivirals. In contrast, I have not experienced any lingering issues at all. I attribute much of this to the treatment I received from Dr. Wu at the beginning of my illness and the continued treatment I’ve received after recovering.

My friends and family say I’m fortunate because I got a “mild case” of Covid. But I really believe that the care provided by Dr. Wu and Wu’s Healing Center helped my system deal more effectively with the virus initially, and the ongoing treatment has helped me maintain wellness after recovering. I feel so grateful to Dr. Wu and everyone at Wu’s Healing Center for helping me stay healthy, happy, and vital!

Darca, 2020

[After Covid] I was able to finally gain my strength and energy back with herbs and TCM treatments. I have learned about how COVID attacks the lung, heart, and endothelial lining from Wu’s Healing Center’s up to date medical knowledge. This surpasses what I learned about my condition and how to care for my health from practitioners at Sutter Health and UC Davis Pulmonology. I also received coaching and support for which herbs are helpful.

CHILDREN'S HEALTH

Anonymous, 2022

My son, A. (now 5 years old), has been under the care of Dr Wu since November 2021. He has been coming in consistently every week to receive treatment. The Wu’s care team has been helping my son in times of the pandemic, and I am grateful for their support!

We first came to see Dr. Wu when A. was diagnosed with severe allergies. His pediatrician prescribed him steroids to alleviate his symptoms — steroids for a 4-year-old child! The doctor assured that this will not impact him in any way. We tried it for a week and it did work, but quickly realized that this is really not addressing the root of the problem. Since I have been seeing Dr Wu, I asked if she can take on a small patient as well, and she graciously said yes. Right after the first session and taking the herbs, A. has had no allergy symptoms since then, and he continues this regimen to this day.

Soon after first seeing Dr. Wu in November, A unfortunately contracted COVID, and Dr Wu was able to prescribe additional herbs to help his recovery. He only had a low-grade fever one day, and he was fine thereafter. We had to entertain an active and completely healthy 4-year-old for 2 weeks confined in our house due to COVID restrictions, but we were happy that he recovered so quickly.

During wintertime, A. also started having nose bleeds, and Dr. Wu prescribed another herb that immediately stopped his nose bleeds.

In June, A. started sneezing, and we found out that he had COVID again. His symptoms were so mild, we didn’t believe that it was COVID … and he stopped having symptoms after day 2. On day 4, we tested him again and the line for COVID was completely gone. I believe that his continued regimen of receiving treatment and taking herbs protected him from getting worse symptoms and helped with the quick recovery.

We continue to have A. visit Dr. Wu weekly, and he truly enjoys coming in for treatments. He looks forward to seeing everyone in the clinic and looks forward to getting what he calls his “massage and cupping” time. I’d like to thank Dr. Wu and her team for taking care of both of us during the pandemic times and beyond.

CANCER CARE

Natalie DiMarco, 2018

It was 2010, and I was a 32-year-old, busy mother of two young daughters — ages one and one and a half — when I began to notice:  I was often short of breath. At first, doctors assumed I had allergies, or asthma and a bad cough. That seemed reasonable; after all, I had never smoked. But my symptoms persisted, with doctors suspecting everything from pneumonia to heart disease. By the time I was properly assessed, the diagnosis was shocking:  I had stage 4 lung cancer. The disease had spread to my lymph nodes and reached the membranes that surround the lungs.

With my future and my family at stake, I called in every healing resource I could think of. That’s what brought me back to Dr. Angela Wu and Wu’s Healing Center. Dr. Wu, introduced through a family friend, had treated me when I was teenager experiencing weird aches, pains, and symptoms Western doctors couldn’t explain. Was it mononucleosis? Lupus? No one knew for certain, but under Dr. Wu’s care, the symptoms went away, and I got on with my life. With an advanced cancer diagnosis, I knew I needed Dr. Wu’s help again.

In 2010, Western physicians were less accustomed to integrating Traditional Chinese Medicine into cancer treatments, but my doctors were open and gave me the green light. With the attitude that these were the cards I had been dealt and I would make the most of them, I took on TCM as a way to keep my immune system strong through aggressive chemo treatments, when I knew my two toddlers would be bringing home plenty of germs.

At first Dr. Wu focused on strengthening and stabilizing me. I took advantage of every modality she offered:  acupuncture, cupping, moxibustion, organ massage — full sessions, three times a week. I also took the herbs she recommended, and as long as regular blood tests showed that my blood, liver, and kidneys were tolerating them, my Western doctors didn’t object.

After a couple weeks of treatment, Dr. Wu began working with me more intensely on the mental and emotional aspects of healing. I estimate that half my care revolved around looking at my cancer experience in a positive way — using affirmations and meditation, channeling positive energy, taking control of myself. One of the hardest concepts to grasp for me, as a mom, was that I had to put myself first. I had to learn to ask for and accept help. I had to live in the present. And I had to minimize negative inputs — I stopped watching reality TV and TV news and carefully monitored the energy I was spending helping and dealing with others.

Dr. Wu’s strong but compassionate coaching was an essential element of my healing. I’m a pretty competitive person — I don’t like to lose — so from the beginning my attitude was, “What’s the plan? What do we do next?” and Dr. Wu worked with that. She counseled me to reflect on and respect my emotions without holding onto them:  I gave myself time for a 5-minute cry each day, then moved on without dwelling. I learned to listen to my body, noticing when I was tired and needed rest. I did the Healing Sounds when I felt tense (I even taught them to my kids). Combining these practices with the hands-on care I received every week at Wu’s Healing Center, I began to notice positive impacts quickly. But healing from cancer can be a long, hard road.

Since my diagnosis in 2010, I’ve traveled to and consulted with cancer centers across the country. Because my cancer had spread, I was not a candidate for surgery, but I have undergone 43 cycles of chemotherapy as well as targeted radiation. I’ve done genetic testing and learned which next-generation drugs I’m a candidate for if I need them in the future. And I have told my story wherever people will listen — in the press, on social media, at public celebrations of survivorship — in the hope that others may benefit from my experience.

Only 10 percent of people diagnosed with stage 4 lung cancer survive longer than five years. Eight years since my diagnosis, I consider myself beyond lucky:  Since my last chemo treatment in January 2013, I’ve had no sign of the disease.

Because I know the difference TCM makes, I still go to Wu’s Healing Center once a week, for treatment and coaching. I’ve worked with Devin Wu when I’ve needed special organ work or orthopedic care. I expect TCM to be part of my life for life. And I know Dr. Wu’s wisdom will always be with me. Her positive messages have helped me heal myself, and helped me raise my kids. At moments when I need her most, I can hear Dr. Wu’s voice counseling me to listen to my body — and to make sure people listen to me. She tells me that my body wants to be well — and I have the power to help it stay that way. She reminds me that the Universe brought us together for a reason. And for that I am so grateful to the Universe.

Dr. Angela Wu is just one of the people on Earth you need to meet. Your life will be richer. I started seeing Dr. Wu over 18 years ago when I was just a couple of months pregnant with my daughter. While she didn’t help me with fertility, she most certainly helped me with pre and post natal care, including some post-partum issues. In my eyes, she quickly become my “primary care physician” in the most literal way. I continue benefitting from her care, and of course from her caring and talented staff’s care for many years until I wasn’t able to leave work for appointments and had a hiatus for several years.

Despite not be able to see her, I lived by so many principles I had learned from her. When I was diagnosed with breast cancer in late 2009, I knew I had to reconnect with my “guru”. At age 47, I know she would rather have had me come back to want to get pregnant, but her eyes got very wide when I told her why I was there. With her eternally positive attitude, I had no choice but to also focus only on healing and making the best choices for me. I knew my life depended on working with her.

Since the very trying time (5 surgeries in 3 years), I always felt like I was getting the best possible care, and therefore shot at regaining my health, working with Angela and staff. I believe she possesses a wisdom that goes beyond our human and impermanent shells, that facilitates personal peace.

I recently benefited from her wisdom with a problem I was having with a relationship with a close friend. Through Dr. Wu sharing her own personal experiences, I was able to identify what was important to me and reaffirm my commitment to this dear friendship. I am forever grateful for my relationship with Dr. Wu and recommend her for any and every person needing care.

STUDENTS, STAFF, COLLEAGUES

Kat Horn, 2023

I honestly can’t remember the specifics that lead me to be employed at Wu’s Healing Center, but I do remember my interview.  It was unlike any I’d ever had.  Along with the usual standard questions, Dr. Angela Wu looked at me like she could read my entire life, and told me I need to write more, along with some astute observations about my personality.  I had no idea what to expect.  I could tell this was going to be a great journey.

I was technically hired because of my massage experience, although my background is actually in western medicine.  As soon as I started, I began learning so much more than Chi Nei Tsang massage, an ancient form of organ massage.  Being a part of Wu’s Healing Center meant more than showing up to work and clocking in and out.  It was a motley crew team of employees with all different backgrounds who had united for the cause of helping others heal.  We were expected to be working on ourselves in addition to learning how to provide care.  As part of my onboard training, I was taught the basic principles of Qi Gong.  I read Fertility Wisdom, Dr. Wu’s bestselling book, so that staff and clients alike had absorbed the same information.  I learned about Chinese Medicine, acupuncture, and how important energy is in the healing arts.  Team meetings usually had nothing to do with the day-to-day operations of the clinic, instead they were seen as opportunities for growth.  We often had homework to do before the meeting, which involved looking inward and exploring our own individual depths.  We listened to recordings of Abraham Hicks Law of Attraction seminars, which laid forth a structured pattern of thinking I’d never encountered.  We were provided dinner if we were working late shifts, it was always traditional Chinese food from a nearby restaurant that was nothing like that Americanized Chinese food I’d eaten growing up.  It was like diving into some other universe through a secret portal walking through the doors of Wu’s Healing Center every time I came to work.

Then there was Dr. Angela Wu herself.  She carries a force with her that is so unique, engaging, caring, and direct.  She can read people in a way few others can.  I watched the impact she had on so many people’s lives through her fierce dedication to her clients, giving them one hundred percent of her attention, time, and energy when she was in the room with them as if nobody else existed in that time and space.  She encouraged her clients to start really taking care of themselves body, mind, and spirit in addition to the acupuncture, massage, and Chinese herbal medicine treatments they were given.  The results were impressive, and so many clients saw major shifts in their health.  She gave this same time and energy to her staff.  She was truly invested in our growth as people, not just as employees.  She wanted us all to fare well in the world.  She treated us to all sorts of events and meals out together as a team that felt more like a family.  Dr. Wu is not someone you forget, and she will not forget you either.

I can honestly say that my years spent working for Wu’s Healing Center have shaped the person I am today.  My perspective on the world took on a far more dynamic, rich approach.  My ability to understand myself improved vastly, and my quest for emotional awareness continues to this day.  I am so appreciative for the time I was able to spend working in such a special and transformative environment, under one of the world’s top acupuncturists.  I learned so much.  I left because I moved to Colorado, but I am still in touch with Dr. Wu even after all these years.  She has a permanent place in my heart and I will never, ever forget her, my amazing coworkers, and the special time I spent working for the one and only Wu’s Healing Center.

Carol Francois, L.Ac., 2023

I first met Dr. Angela Wu in 1981 while taking one of her classes at San Francisco State University. Acting on a recommendation from one of her visiting teachers, I began receiving acupuncture treatments from her. Being a young and financially challenged student, affording the necessary number of sessions to address my congenital condition seemed daunting. However, Angela and I struck an agreement that I would work in her clinic in exchange for treatments. This turned into a lifelong friendship and mentorship, akin to family.

Even at a young age, Angela possessed a wisdom that surpassed her years. As the AIDS epidemic emerged, leaving few treatment options in Western Medicine, Angela fearlessly stepped forward to provide care for young men grappling with their mortality. While many people shied away from those affected by this disease, Angela showed unwavering kindness, love, and compassion in her care. She even developed specialized herbal formulas, which we, as her students, prepared and in addition to using them with her own patients we also shipped her formulas to a clinic in New York City to assist a larger population battling the disease. Through Angela’s practice, I witnessed many individuals who had various challenging medical conditions and had lost hope of ever being helped get well under her care. Witnessing her tremendous success with treating patients inspired me to further my studies in Chinese Medicine and to become a Licensed Acupuncturist myself.

Eventually, Dr. Wu decided to focus her practice on treating infertility, earning her the well-deserved title of “the fertility goddess.” I’ve been in awe watching her help countless women fulfill their dreams of becoming mothers. These women, forever grateful for Angela’s care, have shared their stories with me and others over the years. Angela has been a steadfast friend, mentor, and a tremendous source of inspiration while always encouraging me to strive to be the best version of myself. Our connection is one that I cherish deeply and will always be grateful for.

Shawn Luther, 2023

After moving from Dallas, Texas, where I was a licensed massage therapist, my first job in San Francisco was working with Dr. Angela Wu at Wu’s Healing Center. Most of the clinic staff had been students, interns (apprentices), and employees of Dr. Wu for many years and, to be honest, I felt extremely out of place (in fact, the Chi Organ Massage practiced at the clinic was nothing like the Swedish massage techniques in which I had been trained). Entering the environment of Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) with its methods of diagnosis (like “listening” to the body) and treatments as well as Taoism (with concepts like “Yin & Yang” and the “Five Elements” of wood, fire, earth, metal & water), seemed much like being Alice falling down the rabbit hole into Wonderland. Of course, I knew these terms, but how they all related to one another in the context of TCM was beyond my understanding at that time. To my credit, I had a background practicing energy work and was already familiar with the concept of life force energy (Chi/Qi/Ki) which made integrating these new concepts much easier.

Dr. Wu and I seemed to “click” as we connected almost immediately, and it seemed like we’d known each other for years. Her calming nature put me at ease, and she was open to hearing my ideas and insights. Only a few weeks into my tenure at the clinic, I made a few suggestions to Dr. Wu that I felt would save time and money and improve the overall experience for her, the clinic staff, and most importantly the patients. Not only did she appreciate the feedback from my “fresh pair of eyes”, but she implemented most of those changes, many of which are still in use today. I quickly realized that I had other ways to contribute and make a difference, and I wasn’t as “out of place” as I originally thought. I would frequently “empty my cup” (a valuable mantra at the clinic) to clear away my own expectations of what I thought I “should” know and how I was “supposed” to be which allowed for an unexpected version of me to arise naturally. As I continued to learn more about the nature of acupuncture and Dr. Wu’s unique fertility program, she was patient and supportive while I endeavored to read several of the books offered to patients at the clinic to explain TCM and Taoism in further detail. Very soon it all began to come together for me.

As a staff member at Wu’s Healing Center, I understood that I was in some ways an extension of Dr. Wu as she couldn’t be everywhere at once. One thing that served my working relationship with Dr. Wu so well was my sense of humor. Dr. Wu was very intentional to keep things light and upbeat when appropriate (and there was even a laughing qi gong exercise for patients that would often lighten up the entire clinic with joy). On the other hand, the health and fertility journeys of our patients were at times serious, daunting, and even devastating. As the front desk manager at the time, I would sometimes spend time with clients to listen, hold space, and bear witness to their experiences. Dr. Wu taught me to become more aware of my own Yin & Yang balance so that, as a 6-foot-tall man, I could maintain a gentle, peaceful presence that also provided a quiet strength in support of others.

In December 2008, I moved on from Wu’s Healing Center to work elsewhere, and Dr. Wu has since continued to stay in touch with me, whether to send birthday wishes, to see how I’m doing, or to exchange updates about our lives or the clinic. She’s also invited me to a few special events over the years that I attended (and it was great to see a lot of familiar faces from my time at the clinic).

During the first year of the pandemic, after sharing some of my health concerns with her, Dr. Wu suggested I come for a series of treatments for immune support and to restore balance to my overall well-being (which was much needed). Remembering our time working together, I did not hesitate. I told myself, “Do not walk. RUN!” Receiving those treatments and herbs brought me a much-needed reminder to continue to focus on the present moment and to listen to my own body, especially amidst the chaos, anxiety, and fear of the unknown that was so prevalent then.

I learned so much working with Dr. Wu (some of which I’ve certainly since forgotten), yet there is one thing she said that has helped me through many situations in my life. True to Taoist fashion, Dr. Wu once said, “When something comes into my life, I accept it 100%. And when something leaves my life, I release it 100%.”

Life isn’t a Baskin-Robbins ice cream shop with 31 options to choose from. Sometimes life gives us one option, and our power is in choosing life as it is rather than how we would like it to be. Flat tire: Choose. Illness: Choose. Layoff: Choose. In Texas, there’s a saying, “Sometimes you just have to ride the horse in the direction it’s going” (meaning that life happens, and we must adapt or flow with how things occur).

In the past 9 months, my stepdad, my dad, and my mother have all passed away. Being able to lovingly remind myself to accept life as it occurs (exactly as it is and exactly as it isn’t) has been such an amazing tool to help me navigate the loss and grief these past several months (and going forward). I also recently graduated from a 2-year certificate program, and new opportunities are already beginning to present themselves. Staying open to the possibilities of life is probably the most healing experience I can think of, and I owe much of that to Dr. Wu.

Toby Daly, PhD, LAc, 2023

Dr. Angela C. Wu taught me to apply the lofty theories I studied in Chinese medical school to the pragmatic setting of her busy clinic. I will never forget asking her about a Chinese medicinal that I had learned about in school. “Dr. Wu, is Wu Wei Zi (Fructus Schisandrae) a good herb?” I asked. She was furious! She answered, “A good herb for whom and when?” I am forever indebted to my teacher for mentoring me in the fundamental principles of Chinese medical theory.

Working with Dr. Wu changed my life. Her instructions helped me grow as a person and helped me develop valuable skills. She has been like a mother to me and I am grateful.

Bill Sweeney, Patient & Customer Support Program Director, Genentech, 2023

Wu’s Healing Center has been providing professional, empathetic holistic health care to Bay Area residents for over 30 years. I had the pleasure of being one of Dr. Wu’s students in the early ’90s, and I benefited firsthand from her skills as an acupuncturist and herbalist. After struggling with a debilitating ear infection that modern medicine was unable to address, I gave Traditional Chinese Medicine a try, and to my amazement, Dr. Wu’s treatments quickly resolved the issue. This dramatic experience inspired me to pursue a career in Health Care, and after three decades working in both holistic and modern health care industries, Wu’s Healing Center continues to serve as the best example I’ve seen of a consistently top-notch team of practitioners and support staff working in unison to provide comprehensive, holistic, effective care for patients. Thank you Dr. Wu, to you and the heartfelt team around you who have treated thousands of people over the years who, like me, have so greatly benefited from your care.

Since 1998, I have been and will always continue to be a student of Dr. Angela Wu’s. Being in her presence, in and outside of the clinic, has helped my personal and professional life immensely. I currently see approximately 80 patients per week, with a six-week waiting list for new patients. This is a direct result of the experience I gained working alongside Dr. Wu — observing her patient interactions and her treatment approaches and protocols. The expectations she has for her staff are most demanding, but the rewards may be just as exceptional.

Elliot Hess, 2023

I first met Dr. Angela Wu at San Francisco State University, where I took her class on the history of Taoism and Chinese Medicine. When she entered the class on the first day, I was awestruck by her presence and listened attentively throughout the class, appreciating her humor, candor, and knowledge. Little did I know how this class would influence my life. I began working at Wu’s Healing Center right after graduating from SFSU — the beginning of a three-year journey in which I was challenged in many ways and grew as a result. Although I decided against pursuing Chinese medicine as a career path, a lot of what I learned working at the clinic has stayed with me throughout my life.

Unique to the work environment were weekly classes where Dr. Wu engaged with her staff and former students, many of whom would visit for the sake of these classes. What struck me most was Dr. Wu’s emphasis on listening, communication, and self-awareness within the treatment room. These emphases extended beyond what an outsider might think would fit within the scope of Traditional Chinese Medicine. Her encouragement and discipline for her staff to continually examine and let go of preconceived expectations in interactions with clients was expressed in many different ways, seemingly often suited to specific case studies but also applicable to a broader clientele.

As a young man just graduated from college, I often struggled with relating to the clients, most seeking pregnancy or supporting partners that were. Many had experienced trauma, loss, and encountered barriers from providers that were meant to support them through on steps towards their goal of pregnancy and childbirth. Luckily, Dr. Wu was a steady beacon in leading her staff towards supporting her clients in ways many had not experienced before. This often led to disbelief and was met with resistance, yet many clients returned and were open to seeing themselves in new and different ways. She helped me to realize that one of my main jobs was to guide them back to their bodies through the sensation of touch, grounded through safe, honest, and open communication and awareness.

I made many friendships through my time attending these weekly classes and my three years working at the clinic. One of the friendships that I value most is with Dr. Wu. We continue to keep in touch, over 20 years after I stopped working at her clinic. This is the only time I have kept in touch with any boss at any job, let alone for so many years. I continue to admire Dr. Wu’s tenacity, care, humor, and wisdom. Having lived and worked in countries outside of the United States, I know firsthand the many challenges of adapting to a new culture and admire her for taking these steps with grace. I am very grateful I that I took the opportunity to work under and alongside Dr. Wu.

Julia Lee, 2023

I interned at Wu’s Healing Center during my first year of acupuncture school in San Francisco. It was a great way to gain hands-on, practical experience in patient interviewing skills, bodywork, cupping, and moxibustion. In addition, I got to understand more about patient and practice management, both of which are very important in running a successful Traditional Chinese Medicine practice in the future. I also appreciated the chance to observe Dr. Angela Wu and understand her methodology in treating patients. Dr. Wu is one of the earliest licensed acupuncturists in the U.S., and the capacity to run a thriving TCM practice through all these decades takes tremendous strength, discipline, responsibility, and courage. Today, I have my own practice in the South Bay, and I am always grateful for my early training in San Francisco that set the stage for my current knowledge and experience.

I would like to serve as evidence, to offer my testimonial that Dr. Wu’s Healing Center has played a significant role in my growth and evolution professionally, spiritually, and psycho-emotionally. I started as an employee, working for Dr. Wu as a bodyworker and clinic assistant. In addition to specific acupressure treatments I performed on clients, I learned to operate a busy clinic and assisted in its smooth operation.

I was not just an employee however. As a member of the group, I also became a student of Dr. Wu’s. There was continuous training involved and I was happy to receive the teachings. I soon developed a dual relationship with Dr. Wu. On the one hand, I was her employee and on the other, her student. I benefitted greatly from her deep and wide knowledge of what I call Classical Chinese Medicine. My own practice began to improve and I was able to refine my technique further and further. I realized that her practice of Chinese Medicine was a reflection of her life principles and that she “walked the talk.” I also realized that I was lucky to be in the position I was in, receiving training and putting that training into practice in a health-positive and supportive environment.

As a part of the Wu’s Healing Center team, I experienced the best possible work situation. In her role of employer, Dr. Wu is the best I’ve ever had. She is fair, understanding, open minded, supportive, and flexible. She expects a lot from her employees and works hard to correct their shortcomings and weaknesses. She strives to get the best out of each of us and expects that we do our best. The mood in the clinic therefore was always cooperative, usually fun, and relatively stress free.

Dr. Wu is a master healer and to work with her has been an honor and a privilege. In addition to Chinese Medicine, she is an expert in the field of Chinese Astrology and in the field of what I would call the Psychology of Healing. Her understanding of the patient’s underlying conditions and the ways in which a person’s thought process influences their reality is remarkable. This talent allows her to get directly to the core of a patient’s imbalance and re-establish that balance with gentleness and effectiveness. The healing program she has developed is the most comprehensive I have seen.

By incorporating a team approach to treating patients with a multi-faceted treatment plan, including bodywork, acupuncture, herbs, self -treatment exercises, and diet, Dr. Wu has created a truly holistic program. It is an excellent representation of the Taoist principles of balance of yin and yang, alignment of the 3 treasures, and awareness of the interplay of the 5 elements.

I was a student of Dr. Angela Wu’s back in 1995 at San Francisco State University, where I minored in Holistic Health and took her Chinese Healing Studies class. Subsequently I started seeing Dr. Wu as a patient at her clinic. Dr. Wu’s teachings, philosophy, and clinical treatments have impacted my life in very positive ways over the last 23-plus years and I find myself going back to her and her team whenever I need special insight to help me feel healthier on many levels.

I was reminiscing with Dr. Wu about her memorable classes and she asked me if I remembered a lesson about writing out what skills and good things that we had learned from each of our parents. This piece of info hit me in a strong way as I have recently realized how I’ve been holding onto grief from my mother’s passing from over three years ago, and I have realized with the help of a few intuitive people (including Dr. Wu) that I need to put in some work, on many different levels, to release all the grief and associative feelings around her passing and find my full balance of appreciation and gratitude after my father’s passing in 2007.

One impact on my physical body since my mother’s passing was that I kept having stomach issues like multiple food poisoning and food sensitivities that seemed extreme. I had not put all this information together till I came to Dr. Wu for treatment of my stomach issues. With her help I could see the pattern of what was happening on many different layers of my being: physical, mental, and on a more ethereal, even spiritual level.

In summary, I have found myself returning to Dr. Wu whenever I have some sort of ailment that I feel like she would understand (and help with, more than a typical western medicine approach). Having a working knowledge of holistic health I feel like she has an understanding of the underlying tendencies and can treat those weaknesses in my system that lead to the symptoms surfacing to help my body (and mind) become stronger and more resilient. I am so grateful to have Dr. Angela Wu and Wu’s Healing Center in my life.

I have known Dr. Wu for nearly 30 years and during that time, I have learned much from her and grown tremendously. She has been my acupuncturist, teacher, friend, and coach. At times, we reverse roles but most importantly, we grow together. I remember at one of my first visits to an acupuncture treatment with her, she invited me to attend her Chinese Medical Theory classes at San Francisco State University. This was an unusual offer since I was a professional City Planner and had no idea about how this training or knowledge would help me. I followed her advice and her teaching techniques opened new doors for me. Besides learning the technical aspects of acupuncture, the meridians, pulses, the five- element theory, observing the tongue, etc., I began to notice the subtleties of the body and had my first introduction to intuitive healing. Dr. Wu helped me to reshape my life and eventually, I left civil service and now have a career as an intuitive healer.

I am blessed to have Dr. Wu in my life and grateful for our friendship and all the fringe benefits that come with knowing her. I thank Dr. Wu for the daily reminder to let my heart smile. I am grateful to her for helping me listen to my body and to dialogue with it for continuous good health. Finally, Angela imparted to me the insight of seeing hardships and challenges as opportunities. Wise and generous, Dr. Wu is a gem.
